“The best yet!” “Fantastic!” “A great afternoon, a great atmosphere and a great show!” These were just some of the comments coming from the delighted crowd of over 750 people at the 4th Annual BARP Cropover Extravaganza Day Fete at
Superbly organised by Peter Boyce Ventures, the entire day went without a hitch and was unanimously voted a big hit. After some concerns about the weather, the rain was kind enough to stay away and the venue worked perfectly, with a layout that could not have been better designed. A vast tent comfortably seated those who wished to congregate at tables and chat whilst enjoying the wide range of food and drinks which were available just a few steps away.
The moment the Pomposetters Tuk Band and Mother Sally started to weave their way amongst the assembled crowd, it was clear that the bar was set high for the entire afternoon and evening’s entertainment and the slick and professional show that followed did not disappoint. Supremely MCd by Mac Fingall the parade of popular calypsonians followed a set by comedienne Jennifer Walker who had the crowd literally screaming with laughter.
After Mark Lord gave his first live performance of the BARP song, “Nothing Can Stop us Now”, the stars just kept on coming; Edwin Yearwood, Ras Iley, Andy ‘Blood’ Armstrong, Biggie Irie, John King and special BARP favourite, Red Plastic Bag. The energy and participation on the dance floor seemed to increase with every performance on stage and was a great reminder that you don’t have to be young to party! Popular DJ Gerald B ensured the music kept going and as always, knew what the people wanted to hear, and delivered.
Grateful thanks are due to organiser of the event, Peter Boyce; sponsors Super Centre, Tiger Malt, Digicel and Stansfeld Scott; The Prime Minister for agreeing to allow us to stage the event at his official residence; the staff and management of Ilaro Court for their kind co-operation and assistance; The Royal Barbados Police Force; the Sanitation Department who made sure the venue was left as we found it, and all the BARP volunteers who gave their time to ensure that things went smoothly. Thanks also to photographer Kevin Culpepper for his great pictures of the event seen here and in the photo gallery.
