Elders Day Appreciated

September was Senior Citizens’ Month, and BARP Director and Chairperson of the Membership Committee, Jean Springer and her team decided to invite persons of all ages to come and celebrate Elder Appreciation Day in the grounds of BARP at Collymore Rock on Saturday 20th September.

The theme was, “Love and Support your Elders, the Bedrock of our Nation”, and the event attracted more than 100 people who  braved the appalling weather and enjoyed the various displays and stands recalling the ‘Good Old Days’.

Exhibits included live cooking demonstrations by veteran Marian Hart using traditional implements and provisions; old photographs; Bajan artefacts; old Bajan plants and flowers; weaving; poetry, and prizes, courtesy of Stansfeld Scott, which were awarded each hour to the oldest person present.  Amongst other highlights was a live performance by Poonka’s Tuk Band and the welcome attendance of 104 year old Cardinal ‘Cardy’ Trotman.
